JRNY, in partnership with Hivos, Tetra Pak® and GIZ through the NSWMP/ EU Green project co-funded by the European Union and the German Government, is proud to announce the launch of Green Connect Program, a groundbreaking initiative that aims to accelerate sustainable development across Egypt’s critical sectors. The program is being launched under the esteemed patronage of the Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Agriculture.
Tuesday October 22nd, 2024, saw the inking of an MOU marking the official launch of the program, with the signing parties represented by JRNY Cofounder and CEO Dalia Said, GIZ Egypt’s NSWMP/EU Geen Head of Component Lamiaa Said, and Tetra Pak® Regional Sustainability Manager Ahmed AboElSaoud.
Green Connect comprises a 3-days stakeholder Retreat and Workshop, followed by Hivos Green Growth Summit Volume 2 (GGS V2), happening in 2025 and implemented through a strategic partnership with JRNY. The Summit and the Retreat will continue to build on each other’s findings, learnings and keep on engaging influencing stakeholders to drive ongoing progress.
The Green Connect Program is designed to catalyze environmental impact across key sectors and themes including Energy, Agriculture and Food, Waste Management, Sustainable Finance, and Sustainable Businesses, through bringing together key stakeholders from across the entire value chain, including startups, SMEs, private sector corporations, financial institutions, government regulators, environmental NGOs, International Organizations, and academia for a comprehensive engagement and exchange, un-tapping collaborations and mobilizing resources across the different sectors towards industry and sustainable goals progression.
A cooperation agreement was also signed between Ambassador Magdy Amer, Chairman of Track3 Consulting, and Dalia Said, Co-Founder and CEO of JRNY, to collaborate on the Green Connect program to ensure the participation of involved governmental and international organisations.
Inaugural Retreat in December
The program will kick off with a high-profile retreat this December 2024, uniting key players from the public and private sectors to address challenges and opportunities in sustainable development. The retreat will serve as a unique platform for meaningful dialogue, fostering collaboration, and laying the groundwork for actionable solutions to help Egypt transition to a greener and more sustainable economy.
The retreat would cover workshops and focus groups tackling a 360-angle of the sustainability ecosystem including policies and regulations for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting renewable energies, sustainable financing mechanisms and Impact Investment, tech innovation, carbon market and trading in addition to gender inclusivity within the green industry and its leadership. The event would also be followed up with specific recommendations as well as networking events and establishing central communication channels between the participants.

The program will focus on fostering innovation, resource efficiency, and long-term partnerships, while addressing the urgent need for sustainable solutions across various industries. By uniting key decision-makers and innovators, Green Connect will contribute to advancing Egypt’s sustainability agenda and support the nation’s transition toward a greener future.

About GIZ NSWMP/ EU Green
The “National Solid Waste Management Programme (NSWMP) / EU Green: EU Support for Growth through Egyptian Environment Networks is co-funded by the European Union and the German Government, and is implemented by GIZ Egypt, in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment.
The project aims at improving the capacity of the Ministry of Environment and its affiliated entities the Waste Management Regulatory Authority (WMRA) and the Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency (EEAA) at the national level, as well as the Solid Waste Management Units (SWMU) in the four selected governorates Kafr-El-Sheikh, Gharbeya, Quena and Assiut. Additionally, it will empower Green Entrepreneurs and Civil Society Organizations to implement climate-friendly waste management and circular economy initiatives.
